April 2012: 36th Anniversary of the Last Fisher Body Built Eldorado Convertible. 

April 21, 2012 marks the 36th Anniversary of the day the Last of a Breed rolled off the line at the Clark Street Cadillac Assembly Plant in Detroit. As you all know, the last 200 were all identical and dubbed ‘Bicentennial Editions’. This was officially listed on the window sticker as; 'E45 LAST CONV RPL DECOR PKG' with a list price of $85.00. 

The purpose of the Registry is to identify and locate all 200 of the 1976 Bicentennial Eldorado Convertibles. The most basic information needed to achieve this is the VIN or Serial Number and the Body Number.
Using these two numbers is the only way that a 1976 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible can be identified as a true Bicentennial model. There are two ways for owners of these fine automobiles to participate in the Registry and help document how many of the 200 produced still survive. 

1. VIN and Body Number with the mileage, owners name and city/state. 

2. VIN and Body Number with the mileage, anonymous name and city/state. 

Very simple really, I am more interested in the VIN and Body Number, for obvious reasons, than the owner’s name. The owners name, car location and mileage will forever be changing, but the VIN and Body Number will forever be the same. For Privacy reasons some may feel reluctant to provide their name and I fully understand. But, if we are to get an accurate count of the remaining Bicentennials I need to have the VIN and Body Number. This is the only cross check to determine that the car is actually a Bicentennial. 

Since GM did not keep a record of which VINs went with which Body Number, I have to do some comparisons to be able to get the VINs that were used during the time period these last 200 cars were built. I have been compiling VINs and Body Numbers for about a number of years and have discovered there has not been a single Bicentennial located that does not have a VIN with the last four digits preceding the number 26. Until this is proven otherwise I will have to use this as the cross check. 

I have listed three known Bicentennials by the VIN but no Body Number. These three were sold before the information about how to locate the Body Number was known and I am actively searching for these three cars to obtain the information.. 

I hope this clears up any confusion some have had about the Registry and why it is important to have both the VIN and Body Number. If you or someone you know has one of these cars please contact the site so we can get an accounting of the remaining cars. I would like to have a gathering someday in the future and be able to invite all the remaining to attend, but we need this information.
